[Marrakech antique shop].

^ One of many of shoe shops selling "babouche" slippers.

< An ornate shop front selling antiques and artifacts. Large doors at front were made of copper.

[Marrakech corner store].

< A typical "corner store", seling everything but the kitchen sink.

[Marrakech carpet shop]

^ A carpet shop - spectacular advertising eh? Thankfully it doesn't rain in Marrakech that often..

^ One of my favourite photos. Mike took the photo and I don't even recall him taking it, otherwise I might have been tempted to buy some of the beautiful carved panels...

      [Cafe de epices].

< Cafe de epices - a spot for a spot of lunch and people watching.

V Place DJemaa el Fna (Place of the Dead) - the main square of Marrakech. It's a huge, paved, predominantly pedestrianised space. You occassionally have to watch out for people on scooters kamikazing through. Koutoubia Mosque regally watches over the square from a distance.

      [Place jmaa del Fna].

{Place Jmaa del Fna]

^ View of Place DJemaa el Fna, at foot level and from the opposite end to the photo before.

[Square dining setup]

^ Come four o'clock or so, half of the square turns into a building site as temporary food carts and their seating is set up for the evening's dinner trade.

V The eating area open for business..

[Square nightly dining scene]

[Orange juice stall]

^ One of many orange juice stalls..

[view of terraces]

^ Heading homeward from the main square on sunset. Note the terraced restaurants in background. Great spot to be on sunset or at any time for that matter, for people watching or photo taking. Sometimes the food ain't bad either...

[Calleche in Jmaa del Fna]

^ The local taxi service - horse and carriage known as "Calleche"

      [Place aux Epices Market].

[red light district].

^ Place aux Epices - a small market square in the souks near our riad acommodation.

< On our way home for the evening. Another of my favourite photos - I like the documentary feel. We have left the souks and are now in the residential alleys. High walls wiith few windows and narrow enough to require people to stop and stand close to walls whenever a cart and donkey or moped passes through.

[Marrakech tannery].   < The Marrakech tannery - very much a moshpit in sight and smell...
      [Hannah hitching a ride]

< Hannah hitching a ride in the cart taking our luggage to a taxi rank out of the residential alleys. Whew wasn't that a mouthful? and yes, she was a little perturbed about the experience, that's why I am close by...
